New on GayTalk: forum, private messages, friends and more

A lot has been happening behind the scenes at GayTalk over the past few months. And honestly: quite a lot has changed! Time for an overview of everything that is new — and what you can do with it.

The forum is live

The biggest new feature is our own forum. Here you can join conversations about anything: coming-out stories, relationships, games, music or just a friendly chat in the GayCafé. Introduce yourself in the introduce yourself topic — that way other members get to know you right away — or start your own topic if there is something on your mind.

Sending private messages

Members can now send each other private messages, right here on the website. A bit like MSN back in the day:

• Click the envelope icon on a profile or in the members list to start a conversation.
• The message box sits at the bottom right — you can keep browsing the site while you chat.
• Share photos and GIFs, and you will get an email if someone messages you while you are offline.
• Rather not talk to someone? You can report conversations and block users.

Friends and interests

You can now add other members as friends and follow interests that suit you. Your profile shows your friends and interests, and pending requests show a counter in the menu so you do not miss anything.

You can also link your account to Telegram: that way your groups and profile are connected and the bot knows who you are.

Completing your profile

Profiles have been expanded quite a bit:

• Your own photo album — per photo you choose who can see it: everyone, members only, or just friends.
• An online status and a counter tracking who visits your profile.
• A motto under your name and your socials neatly together.
• A verified badge for members with a real profile.

Faster and safer

A lot has also improved where you cannot see it. The site loads much faster, there is extra protection against spam accounts, and logging in and registering happens on proper dedicated pages instead of the standard WordPress screen.
